A typical motel would not be at all suitable for an extended, but there are more appealing temporary accommodations available in the form of extended-stay lodgings, which is more suitable for the needs travelers.

These long-term lodging is big business and in fact getting bigger all the time. Residence Inn, the first brand to pioneer the idea of extended stay, was started by an apartment developer in 1975, and, since then, many tourist based hotel chains, such as Marriott's Courtyard, have developed separate extended stay brands, while others, like Motel 6, have added wings of furnished apartments to existing locations. The idea behind these hotels is to enable people going to stay somewhere for any more than a few days and trying to live a normal working life, will certainly prefer a kitchen with all the added amenities, and an internet connection over a fancy lobby or a pool. These lodgings might be a tad bit expensive; still you get more for your money. It's more like home where you can cook freely without having the necessity to dine out.

An increasing trend that one notices today is the rise of hiring part time or temporary workers. Thus there are many people working away from home or without the commitment necessary for them to settle down, needing those amenities that you would not normally find in a hotel. Not to forget the rising housing prices across the country that’s continuing to rise. As such people may need more temporary lodgings, and this is where Extended Stay Lodgings come quite handy. Extended stay lodging may fulfill not only a practical purpose, a place to prepare meals and get online but also an emotional one. You can have a place of nesting and relaxing for that temporary phase in comfort. In fact Companies like the Philips Club are renowned for their Extended Stay Lodgings. A few hotels that are expanding rapidly in the extended stay business include Extended Stay America and Choice Hotels.
